On Monday, February 1st CED, in partnership with the Economic Club of Grand Rapids and First Steps hosted a forum to discuss the importance of investing in early childhood education. The forum featured keynote speaker David Brooks, Op-Ed Columnist for the New York Times.

The event featured remarks by Doug Devos, President, Alticor; Jerry Tubergen, President & CEO, RDV Corporation and Vice Chair, the Economic Club of Grand Rapids; and Charles Kolb, President, CED.

In his remarks Brooks explained how participation in high quality early education programs better prepares people to thrive in today's complicated global economy. He discussed the economic and neurological research that supports the need for investing in human capital.

The goal of the forum was to raise awareness among southeast Michighan business and civic leaders of the benefits of investing in early education and encourage them to improve state policies and participate in designing locally sustainable solutions.
