CED and the National Business Initiative convened 100 participants for Business Champions for Human Capacity - A conference on Business Engagement in Education Policy on June 10-11, 2009 in Cape Town, South Africa. Business leaders, academics, advocates, and policymakers were brought together to discuss how the private sector can help move forward high quality education policy in South Africa. Early childhood programs were noted throughout the event as essential to growing a population of high performing students and a strong workforce.

Building on CED's domestic success with early child education programs, CED is bringing the importance of early child development to the forefront of international economic debates.
On December 4, 2008, at the Brookings Institution headquarters in Washington, D.C., CED hosted a conference with the Wolfensohn Center for Development: Business Champions for Early Child Development. This event highlighted the many benefits of early care and education and provided a model for business leaders to become engaged in early child development advocacy. The conference was attended by nearly 100 American and Canadian business leaders, international early child development experts, aid agency representatives, and policy advocates.

The first in a series of conferences on international early child development took place in The Hague, The Netherlands and was attended by European business leaders, international early child development experts, and special guests including Her Majesty, Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands and Her Royal Highness, Princess Laurentien of The Netherlands.
